There are 4 distinct types of pearls in the world:
- Akoya Pearls
- Fresh water or cultured Pearls
- Tahitian Pearls
- South Sea Pearls
Here, we introduced our first collection; The Akoya Collection.
Renowned for their delicate colors and brilliant luster. Akoya pearls are created by the smallest pearl-making oysters in the world. Measuring no more than 6-8 cm in size, the Akoya oyster can be found in the calm waters of Japan, where the cool temperatures encourage a slower formation of nacre; resulting in a more compact structure, which gives the pearls their bright luster.
Akoya pearls were the first cultured pearls dating back to the late 19th century in Japan by the son of a noodle maker; Kokichi Mikimoto. Today, Akoya’s are the classic pearls used for necklaces and other pearl jewelry, with perfect round shapes, bright mirror-like luster, and neutral colors. Akoya pearls are favored by most as the classic pearl choice.
